Electrifying Finance for
Homes Pt. 2

How do we fund the transition to net-zero homes at scale—without expecting homeowners to put their hand in their pocket for the upfront cost?

This event explored finance solutions to accelerate the decarbonisation of Australia’s built environment, including a government-backed loan program repaid upon property sale and green mortgages that eliminate upfront spending by redistributing part of the bank’s profit margin. A sustainable finance taxonomy, funded by the Australian government, is being developed to guide capital into credible climate solutions, address greenwashing, and promote transparency. The discussions made clear that aligning financial tools, policy, and consumer incentives is essential to enable widespread electrification and achieve net-zero goals.
