If finance is ready, how do we drive consumer demand at scale? 

Decarbonising Australia’s $10 trillion housing market offers a major opportunity to cut emissions, reduce living costs, and improve home comfort.

This session explored the role of banks in financing upgrades, highlighted pilot programs like Electrify Your Home, and examined tools enabling energy performance disclosure.

Finance emissions analyst, Climate Energy Finance

Nishtha Aggarwal is a financed emissions analyst with public interest think tank, Climate Energy Finance. She analyses the climate ambition and capital allocation of Australia’s banking giants, engaging with investors, industry, government and environmental groups to accelerate capital towards whole of economy decarbonisation.

She previously advised Defence in real asset management including Industry 4.0 and sovereign industrial capability. Nishtha regularly guest lectures at La Trobe University on ‘making change happen – the role of private sector’. She is first generation Fiji-Indian and Indian and is passionate about a just economic transformation.

Georgia leads Bank Australia’s work to reach their ambitious net zero by 2035 target. She has previously worked on climate strategy, policy and campaigns at Climateworks Centre, the Australian Conservation Foundation and the Australian Council of Trade Unions.

She led the development of Bank Australia’s market-first Electrify Your Home pilot program.

Anthony Wright leads the Building Energy Efficiency Team at CSIRO, responsible for the development of the NatHERS benchmark tool AccuRate. In the last 5 years Anthony has overseen the development of the Australian Housing Database, the redevelopment of AccuRate as SaaS, the implementation of new whole-of-house regulations under the NCC2022, development of the NatHERS benchmark tool for disclosure, development of the RapidRate artificial intelligence,  a social science program which underpinned the Renovate or Rebuild television program, and many other residential energy efficiency projects.
